Helese guides families through college planning with four decades of understanding how much of the process is emotional rather than administrative.
Helese co-founded SEC and has spent more than forty years working with young people's educational and emotional needs — a pairing she treats as inseparable. Before coming to Savannah she earned an honors degree in social work at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and founded Child Line, an emergency helpline for children in crisis. She later coordinated one-to-one tutoring at Royce Learning Center.
As a Certified Educational Planner and a commissioner for the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners, she holds the field's most demanding credential. What families tend to notice is something else: she treats college planning as a family process rather than a checklist. The list of schools matters less than whether a student is ready to leave for one, and she is candid with parents about the difference.
