Janelle Musler
MLIS
Academic Support Coach and College Counselor
Janelle teaches students the academic skills college assumes they already have.
Janelle spent her career as an academic librarian in the Ohio University and South Carolina university systems, where she taught for-credit courses in reading skills, research, computing and the first-year experience. That is an unusual background for a college counselor and a useful one — she has watched, up close, which students arrive at college able to do the work and which arrive only able to have gotten in.
She holds a master's degree in library and information science from the University of South Carolina and belongs to the Independent Educational Consultants Association, the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling, and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Her coaching focuses on the skills that go unnamed in a syllabus: how to read something difficult, how to find a real source, how to plan a semester that does not collapse in week ten.
